If I told you about the latest commercial job I booked, I’d have to kill you.
So, to avoid a difficult encounter and having to burn the outfit I’m wearing, I will instead discuss an insider’s take on the difficulties of being an actor. Sometimes I hate actors, which has everything to do with on-set conversations about food. That’s right, FOOD. Now, I love food, I really really do, but I despise this on set obsession with catering and craft services…
- When’s it coming?
- What do you think we’re having for lunch?
- Actual quote from a set, “Do you think I can go get another hot dog?” Which was going to be the third hot dog for the person in question.
- Ohhh, I hope it’s good!
I can handle some excitement about food, but worse are the complaints about craft services or catering, which only serve to reinforce negative actor stereotypes. This job is awesome, and if the food sucks, well, this job is still awesome! And, what is sucky food anyway? If I get pizza on set, oft considered to be the WORST offense, I’m pretty excited about it.
Maybe it’s just a perspective thing…if I were doing this for the food, well, I guess the food would be more important…
…wait, is that why people become actors???
